The Surgical Technologist (Scrub Tech) performs a variety of perioperative duties with limited direct patient care during the pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative phases under the direct supervision of an RN.

Certification of Surgical Technology. Certification in Basic Life Support is required within 3 months of the date of hire. No experience required other than formal education process. Understands and utilizes the nursing process; possesses technical skills and knowledge of equipment mechanisms necessary to deliver quality nursing care; demonstrates knowledge of and commitment to policies and procedures of nursing service and the hospital and clinic.

SCHEDULE: Full-time; 36 hours per week; 7:00 am - 3:30 pm - 4 days per week; 7:00 am - 11:00 am - 1 day per week

Assists with direct patient care including taking vitals, recording data, relaying pertinent information and assisting with patient care. Assists with admission, discharge and transfers. Anticipates patient care needs; utilizes fall prevention techniques. Performs EKGs. Handles instruments, supplies and equipment essential to the surgical procedure. Displays understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates needs of the surgeon. Functions collaboratively with the medical staff and other disciplines to provide and enhance patient care anticipating patient care needs, individualizing care as appropriate. Performs retraction/suction and/or sponge surgical field. Cut suture, assist with shaving, apply/remove dressings and/or packing, apply remove casts/splints.
